As promised in our Freecouver book, we’ll have monthly event lists right here on the blog! July is packed with free concerts, festivals, outdoor movies, community celebrations, and family-friendly activities happening all around Vancouver. We’ve picked out a few of our favourites:
10 Free Events in Vancouver – July 2026
Canada Together at Canada Place: Marking the 40th anniversary of the annual event at Canada Place, which has historically been the largest July 1st celebration outside of Ottawa, the theme of Canada Together is Weaving together the fabric of a nation. Planned collaboratively with representatives from the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, the day will feature great food, multiple activity zones, Indigenous Marketplace and storytelling.
Steveston Salmon Festival: Celebrating its 79th anniversary on July 1, 2026. Canada’s biggest little birthday party” is all about community. Visitors will be treated to a show-stopping parade, live music, family-friendly activities and much more. Don’t miss the legendary Salmon Bake!
Fridays on Front in New Westminster: Downtown New Westminster’s street party! Enjoy live performances, a market, food trucks, dancing, and more on Friday nights in July and August starting July 11th at Front Street Mews.
Free Gardening Workshops: The Lansdowne Food Garden hosts free gardening workshops on Thursdays this summer. Victory Gardens experts will show you how to grow, harvest, and care for your own garden. Every tomato, herb, and harvest grown in the garden is donated directly to the local community and food bank. No registration is required, just show up!
Symphony at Sunset with the VSO: Join the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for a free performance by the beach on July 11th. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and enjoy the music starting at 8:00pm. Note: Previous events have been held at Sunset Beach but this year it’s moving to David Lam Park.
Burnaby Summer Stages: While you’re enjoying the sports fields, spray park, and playground at Confederation Park in Burnaby don’t miss the free Summer Stages performances on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursday evenings. There’s a lineup of shows all summer long, starting July 14th.
Summer Movie Nights: The Downtown Vancouver BIA presents free outdoor movies at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza) on Thursdays. Each event begins at 5:00pm with themed activities and performances inspired by the evening’s feature film before the movie takes over a giant 33-foot inflatable screen at sundown.
Evo Summer Cinema: Free movie nights in Stanley Park take place on Tuesdays this summer at Ceperley Meadow near Second Beach. Watch some of your favourite films on a massive 40ft screen under the stunning night sky.
Deckchair Cinema: The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver presents free summer outdoor movies with an all sports theme during their popular Deckchair Cinema series. Catch movies every Thursday by the waterfront. Admission is by donation courtesy of BMO Financial Group. The experience includes popcorn as well as access to the Gallery’s summer exhibitions Greg Girard (opening night: July 9), Simranpreeet Anand: Living with the Eternal, and James Harry: Eye of the Ancestor.
Opera in the Park: The Vancouver Opera sets up in Burnaby’s Deer Lake Park on Sunday, July 19th at 7:30pm. Come early for the family friendly pre-show, which begins after 5:00pm. There will be food trucks onsite and you can bring a chair or picnic blanket to settle in for an evening of free world class entertainment.
